EICR – Fixed Wire Testing

Fixed Wire Testing – otherwise known as an ‘Electrical Installation Condition Report’ (EICR) or a ‘Periodic Inspection’ – is an essential part of your Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), and essentially inspects your building’s electrical installation.

As an employer and/or building manager, you are legally obliged to comply with a number of regulations designed to protect your building’s occupants from electrical-related injuries. (That’s employees, customers and visitors.). 

There are three key reasons you need to have an Electrical Installation Condition Report:

  • To ensure your electrical system is safe for continued use
  • To provide early detection of potential issues to avoid downtime and loss of earnings for businesses
  • To ensure your building and contents insurance remains valid

Your periodic visit will uncover any safety risks which need addressing, establish if there’s been any damage or wear-and-tear, and reveal if any electrical circuits or equipment have been overloaded (which results in overheating). This is done using a mixture of inspections and electrical testing.

Your specialist (i.e. us!) will also be able to help you rectify any issues raised as a result of the visit.

The recommended intervals for fixed wire testing (electrical safety inspections) depend on the type of premises, but for commercial premises it is every 5 years.

Emergency Testing

Electrical Services - Emergency Lighting

Every building is required by law to have emergency lighting fitted in case of a situation when the main power supply is cut and any normal illumination fails.  For example, the loss of mains electricity could be the result of a fire or a power cut and the normal lighting supply fails. As a result this may lead to sudden darkness and potential danger to the occupants. 

Our experienced team of electricians are on hand to test and make recommendations for upgrades where needed to emergency fittings or any of your requirements for electrical services.
